At the Dinner Party

host greeting guests
Dan (the host) greets Tom and Jenny (the guests) at the door.
giving bottle of wine
They give him a bottle of wine they brought.

Inside, they say hello to some people they know.
Dan introducing people
Dan introduces them to some people.

They shake hands...
making small talk
...and make some small talk.

They have their dinner.

At the end of the evening, the guests say goodnight and thank Dan.

For Special Attention

bring a bottle of wine = it's polite in America for a guest at an adult party to bring a bottle of wine; it's also polite for a host to say that the gift is unnecessary. — 在美国成人派对上,客人带一瓶葡萄酒是礼貌的;主人说不必带礼物也是礼貌的。
small talk = is talk about some unimportant topic like the weather or sports; you "make small talk" and "make conversation." — 聊天气、体育等无关紧要的话题。
evening = is the time from about sundown until about midnight. — 从日落前后到午夜左右的时间段。
