Using the Answering Machine

Tom recorded an outgoing message on his machine.

When Jenny called, she heard the message...

...and left her own message for him.

When Tom got home, he saw a light showing that he had a message.

He pressed the button to play the message.

As he listened to it...

...he took some notes.

Then he erased the message.

record / erase = when you record a message, you put it on a tape; when you erase a message, you take it off a tape. — 录音是把信息录到磁带上；删除是把信息从磁带上抹掉。

outgoing message = what someone hears when a machine answers the phone. — 别人打过来时听到的留言。

message light = when there is a message recorded on the answering machine, the light shows you it is there to listen to. — 有新留言时，指示灯会亮起提醒你收听。
