Unit 7 — Making Coffee / Making Tea

Making Coffee (with an electric coffee maker)

Pam scoops some ground coffee into the filter.

Then she pours some water into the coffee maker.

pressing the switch to turn the coffee maker on

She turns the coffee maker on by pressing the switch.

The water heats up...

water dripping through the ground coffee

...and drips through the ground coffee...

...and into the coffeepot.

Making Tea

Dan boils water in a teakettle.

He pours the hot water into a teapot...

...and adds some tea leaves.

As the tea leaves soak in the water,...

...the water becomes tea.

Dan strains the tea.

Then he adds sugar and milk, and stirs his tea.

For Special Attention

filter / strainer = a filter has very small holes. A liquid or gas can pass through, but large pieces of a solid cannot. A strainer does the same thing, but its holes are larger and it probably has a handle. — 滤纸有非常细小的孔，液体或气体可以通过，但固体大颗粒不行。滤勺作用相同，但孔更大，通常有把手。

ground coffee = if you grind coffee beans, you get ground coffee — 把咖啡豆磨碎，就得到研磨咖啡粉。

scoop coffee = scoop...coffee = move it by using a scoop — scoop...coffee 就是用勺子舀咖啡。

heat up = becomes hot — 变热。

soak = when something soaks, it stays in water and becomes very wet — soak 指某物浸在水里，变得很湿。
